Marlene Millard - Marls
I was born in rural Victoria and now live near Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.
“You may take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl!”
This is descriptive of why I paint and draw the subjects that I do.
I'm a farmers' daughter and my paintings are reflective of my background of growing up on the land.
My love of horses has been life long and I began drawing horses as a young girl; over and over again.
I like my art to tell a story. Sometimes the story is about good working dogs and how they manage the cattle and sometimes it's
the tranquility of a windmill beside a dam, or the majesty of a bottle tree on the hill. Sometimes it's about our native flora or fauna.
And sometimes it's the pure and simple blessing of seeing the sun rise.
I appreciate all of this and rural Australia will always inspire me.
My artwork is always produced from Artist Quality products
and framed to an archival standard by an internationally accredited master framer.
Mostly self taught throughout childhood and adolescence;
as an adult I then studied for a Diploma in Complete Commercial Art & Graphic Design
followed by various Art Workshops to expand my knowledge and skills.
But no amount of lessons or books can replace practice, practice and more practice.
When asked "How long did that take to paint?"; the answer is
"A lifetime!......
of practice, experimentation, failures, learning from the failures, frustration, disappointment
and sometimes great satisfaction".
An integral part of development for an artist, is to always be challenged, so you can continue to improve your skills.
Over the years I have won various awards, written a demonstration article published in
the Australian Artist Magazine and exhibited solely and with groups.
Currently I produce paintings for commissions, exhibitions and competitions; along with teaching drawing and pastels.
