Marlene Millard - Marls

Marlene was born in rural Victoria and now lives near Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.

Enjoying a love of drawing and art since early childhood and having a rural background; Marlene developed an eye for detail regarding animals and nature, along with an appreciation of the beauty found in ordinary aspects of life. This passion can be seen in Marlene's original artwork as she is moved to capture the soft fur of a koala, the harsh rock face of an escarpment, the wet nose of a puppy, the defiant eye of an emu, the beauty of a sunset or just a dusty track through the hills. Rural Australia will always inspire Marlene.

Mostly self taught throughout childhood and adolescence, Marlene then studied for a Diploma in Complete Commercial Art & Graphic Design followed by various Art Workshops to expand her knowledge and skills. But no amount of lessons or books can replace practice, practice and more practice. When asked "How long did that take to paint?"; the answer is "A lifetime!...... Of practice, experimentation, failures, learning from the failures, frustration, disappointment and sometimes great satisfaction". An integral part of development for an artist, is to always be challenged so you can continue to improve your skills.

In recent years Marlene has won various awards, written a demonstration article published in the Australian Artist Magazine and exhibited solely and with groups.  Currently Marlene produces paintings for commissions, exhibitions and competitions; along with teaching drawing and pastels.
